      • I love, love, Love this car

I purchase the Acura TLX with the technology Package 2.4L at the end of September 2016 and so far I enjoy driving this car. It is so smooth and responsive to the road. I was aware that Acura 2015 version has some issues with the transmission prior to purchase; however, i was told that in the 2016 model those issues where addressed. So far I'm in love with my car and hope that it maintains the Honda/Acura badge of reliability, value, and quality. I test drove other luxury brand of cars and yes they all felt great, especially the BMW3 series; but, the Acura had more features for the price.

I knew I would like this car a lot before I got it, but i like it more than that. The cars I've driven and/or owned that beg for comparison are: 2006 Accord EX-L, 2012 Acura TSX 2.4L Tech, 2015 Accord V6 Touring, 2006 Honda S2000, which I just sold to buy this car. The TLX offers so much of what's great about an Accord--though not the full interior room; if you want a full mid-size sedan, this isn't one--but with the premium/luxury treatment. I have not driven the current Accord, so I cannot speak to that, but I can say that the TLX delivers superior driving dynamics, ride and handling balance, and quietness over a 2015 Accord V6 Touring (my mom's car), and also over the 2012 TSX we leased new for three years. Those reviewers who have noted that the TLX improved on all of the TSX's shortcomings are absolutely right. This thing is dialed-in. The 8-speed DCT, which was one of the big draws for me, helps a lot. But they also improved all other aspects of the driving experience. The safety tech is there, but not obtrusive. It has adaptive cruise, which I wanted. The ELS Studio surround system is still excellent. I will point out that, since this car has Android Auto/Apple Carplay compatibility, they have stripped out a lot of the functionality of the on-board voice command and navigation systems from what you got back in 2012. That makes sense, given that most drivers will use Auto or Carplay most if not all of the time. But it's worth noting for those Acura fans who got used to the Zagat ratings or the full suite of voice commands of earlier models ("Temperature Max Cold!") The two-screen infotainment layout works great; your navi is going up top, your audio and climate below. The lower touch screen is much better than the system in my mom's 2015 Accord Touring, which is similar if not identical to the previous TLX's. As for the drive, this is a perfect car for asking the question "why do you need more than this?" For those of us who drive on U.S.. roads at legal speeds, I can't see why more power would be helpful. I'm coming out of an S2000, and while this car won't carve an off-ramp at that car's level, for what the car is, it does great. I would not put up with a FWD sedan with torque steer or noticeable understeer during normal driving. Both the '12 TSX and the '15 Accord V6 had torque steer at hard launch. This car does not. (I suppose P-AWS helps here, but Honda has other tricks too.) The interior is not opulent; it's nice. The materials are all nice and nicely put together. Those looking for the kind of "wow" in the cabin that a current Mercedes has or a Jaguar has will not find it here. Those who appreciate understated, basic quality and what you need where you need it (quality perforated leather, quality pleather, soft-touch plastics) will be happy. The fake wood looks good, and there is real aluminum trimming the upper center stack. NVH is seriously suppressed; my wife and I think the car compares neck-and-neck to our 2014 Lexus GX460 Luxury in that department. Fuel economy is going to be a big plus with this for commuting and short road trips, but putting in Sport or Sport Plus is also a nice option for having some fun. We bought this car CPO from an Acura dealer with just under 32K on it, flawless condition, for $25,500 out the door. That's so much car for that money. I will update this review on reliability once we've owned it for a while.
      • DON'T BUY Until Acura Fixes Transmission Issues

By Raleigh Reviewer on Wednesday, July 22, 2015

It seems like my new Acura TLX is having issues with it’s ZF 9-speed transmission. It hesitates and shifts hard going from 2nd to 3rd gear. A lot of TLX owners are upset about this and there is currently a 9-page thread on Acurazine about this issue. This same ZF 9-speed transmission is also used by the 2014 Range Rover Evoque, the 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokees, and the 2015 Chrysler 200s. These vehicles are also having transmission issues. Some TLX owners have found a workaround for this issue. However, many owners feel that they shouldn’t have to employ a workaround for a car that can cost up to $45,000. Unfortunately, Acura has not even acknowledged this issue. Several owners have taken their TLX to the dealer only to be told that there is no problem.
